Carolia has become the primary supporter of Wheny’s Cancer Shelter in Denpasar.
Wheny opened his home several decades ago, offering free accommodation and meals to desperately poor people from all over Bali & other Indonesian Islands such as Lombok, Sumbawa & Flores, who are suffering from all forms of cancer and require accommodation close to Sanglah hospital for treatment.
Wheny’s house has been renovated recently and can now accommodate up to 14 patients and their family support.
Carolia initially assisted by sinking a bore for better quality water, furnishing the bedrooms and supplying appliances such as fridges, washing machine, juicers etc. A small hydroponic farm was also erected in the yard to provide a distraction for patients on their good days and to introduce nutritious greens to their diet.
Carolia supplies ongoing support in the form of rice and other essentials including toiletries. Carolia also makes available, the use of the Carolia vehicle and driver to transport patients between their remote homes in Bali (Negara, Singaraja etc) and Wheny’s house and home again after treatment is complete.
Carolia also contributes to patient therapy by way of gifting arts & craft supplies.
Visitors to Bali are invited to visit the centre and meet Wheny and the patients. We encourage visitors to share their crafting skills with those patients well enough to participate.
In an effort to encourage the patients creative abilities there are plans to eventually hold twice yearly (June & November) exhibitions at which patients will be able to display and sell their creations. 100% of sale proceeds will go directly to the artist.
